Timekid solves a problem that all parents in the 21st century know all
too well: children who spend too much time in front of laptops, pads or
smartPhones. Timekid is essentially a clock, which counts down agreed
upon time. Once the child is on an electronic device, the clock is
started manually, when it stops or pauses, the clock is stopped. The
default settings for time per day are 3o minutes for weekdays and 60
minutes for Saturday and Sunday. In addition, time can be added or
subtracted for the current day.
Timekid is based on trust, because
children are very willing to adhere to agreed rules if they are
consistent and applied fairly. With the kids version of timekid the
children can also check on their own device to see how much time is
still open. This version does not allow any changes to the rules, but it
has an additional feature: demanding quality time with the parents. If
the child clicks here, the addressed parent receives a message that will
immediately open the calendar. Sometimes it takes such little reminder
of how valuable and short the childhood of our “digital natives” is.
