Official PlayStation 4 Universal Remote Set To Hit Stores Later This Month

For PS4 aficionados who have been longing for the PS4 Universal Remote, the wait is almost over.
Sony America has introduced on Thursday, Oct. 8, the hotly anticipated officially licensed PS4 Universal Remote that is set to hit stores later this month.
"The Universal Media Remote for PS4, which will be available in the U.S., Canada and Mexico when it launches later this month, uses Bluetooth to control PS4 and can also be set up to control up to three additional devices, including a TV, cable box and audio receiver," writes Sony on a blog post.
This remote was built to replace the DualShock 4 controller which users find a bit problematic.
It is worth noting that the PS4 Universal Remote works with quite a few streaming applications, which include HBO Go, Crunchyroll, Twitch, Netflix and YouTube.
The remote is also compatible with these apps: FUNimation, Blu-ray Disc Player, Media Player, NBA Game Time, NGL Sunday Ticket, PlayStation Vue and PlayStation Video.
At the moment, the remote does not support Amazon Prime and Crackle apps. However, the blog guaranteed that it will be compatible with a lot more apps and services in the future.
What's more, the remote does consist of dedicated PS4 buttons to be used in navigating apps and menus, including Share, Options, PS buttons and Action buttons (circle, triangle, square and cross).
The accessory is priced at $29.99 and it is already available for preorder at Best Buy, Amazon and Toys R Us.
Amazon promises to release the remote on Oct. 27. Best Buy will launch the remote on Oct. 12. Toys R Us claims a Nov. 7 release. In the meantime, the remote is already available at GameStop.
"I got the ps4 Universal Media Remote it works on DVD blue ray video u buy on the PSN but it does not work on YOUTUBE I tried to use the buttons it didn't works," writes user Airgear at the GameStop.
The device has a dimension of 11. x 5.3 x 2.5 inches. The weight is 0.6 pounds. Meanwhile, the remote needs two AAA batteries for reliable power. Batteries are not included in the package.
